It is incumbent upon Californians to continue to lead the way to protect our natural resources. I support the legislation regarding standards on greenhouse gases. The California Air Resources Board approved the world's most stringent rules to reduce auto emissions. Our Governor’s love affair with gas guzzling Hummers is a poor standard for the state. With gas prices spiraling out of control and the dangerous changes in global climate, it is incumbent upon us to reduce our dependence on oil. California should lead the way in developing new, cleaner, cheaper fuels. It can be done. Today, the forward-thinking people of Brazil power their cars with a tiny amount of petroleum. Various clean additives do the rest. It is estimated that Brazil will be petroleum-free within the next five years. Why can't we do that in California?
As your Assemblywoman, I will push for the development of new, cleaner forms of fuel by 2010.
As your Assemblywoman, I will also push to ensure that we have clean water as well!
This administration has no use for the Kyoto Treaty, which was signed by most of the world's nations. As your representative in Sacramento, I will introduce a resolution in the Assembly to urge the State of California to formally abide by the terms of the Kyoto Treaty.
